Ottawa reports Premier R B Bennett gave notice of closure to force a vote on unemployment relief. In an hours long address he accused Liberals of maliciously consuming time as Parliament nears Easter recess. Closure aims to end debate before Wednesday morning with 20 minute speeches.
Relief agencies and neighbors aid Alabama Georgia South Carolina and Tennessee as the death toll climbs to 380 with more than a thousand injured and homeless. Red Cross American Legion and state authorities lead rescue housing and rehabilitation efforts amid widespread damage from last Monday night storms.
The charge of possessing stolen property against J Deboers was dismissed after a speedy trial. Judge Green said Deboers narrowly avoided conviction and urged better care in the future. Prosecution said a saddle stolen from L R Wall Irvine was traded by Deboers to Jorawsky Adderson district, later recovered. Deboers claimed lack of knowledge until after the sale. Alex MacGregor prosecuted for the Crown with G M Blackstock KC for the defence.

Shanghai reports the Chinese government agreed to a bold plan to seize hostages in bandit centers in Kienli province. The move targets the captors holding Charles Baker, a river boat captain, to force a ransom free for his life.
A post graduate tour by the Alberta Medical Association and the Canadian Medical Association will visit Medicine Hat on April 4 led by Dr. A. T. Mathers and Dr. J. D. Adams. Each speaker will cover four topics. The tour runs April 4 to April 14 with stops in Lethbridge Blairmore Calgary Drumheller Stettler Red Deer Ponoka.

A sub committee drafted findings while noting legal difficulties under the Direct Legislation Act and possible challenges. With voter lists considered, three of five constituencies qualified using supplementary lists. without them four would fail.

London reports detail Britain's reply to the Irish Free State over abolishing the oath of allegiance. The note argues the oath is integral to the 1921 treaty and that the Free State must continue land annuities. Disputes center on payment, constitutional status, and potential referendum requirements. Dail and Senate recess to April 20.
Edmonton March 23 Liberal House leader George H. Webster urged the government to end active operation of the Lethbridge Northern irrigation scheme at the earliest opportunity. He warned the province faces large losses and argued the project should be placed on a self supporting foundation. Civil ministers denied delays and emphasized efforts to adjust contracts and revalue land as part of progress toward viability.

Edmonton reports a proposed act to tax fuel oil at five cents per gallon and license all wholesale and retail fuel dealers. The bill targets bootlegging, requires licenses within 30 days, and imposes heavy penalties for unlicensed selling, with license plates for stations and rebates for certain non highway uses.
Percy G. Davies, 29, Conservative, captured the Athabaska seat by 283 votes over Liberal Isaac Doze after results from all 219 polls were tallied. Davies 4,914. Doze 4,631. United Farmers of Alberta candidate Louis Nemadeau 3,434. Farmers Unity League candidate Carl Axelson 2,303.
Winnipeg reports inspections on Wednesday with 620 cars of wheat, up from 586 last year. Grain totals include 404 contracts, 185 oats, 37 barley, 3 flax, 6 rye, reflecting crop movement levels.
The new 21 passenger Ford bus arrived yesterday and began operation this morning on the same route and schedule as before. The fare remains unchanged.
