Dave Russell, Alberta minister of municipal affairs, urged the federal government to slow any cost sharing in municipal activities. He noted lack of federal goals and said more information is needed before Alberta entertains proposals.
Three AFL CIO heads led by George Meany resign from the presidents Pay Board alleging bias against workers. The move leaves two labor members on the 15 member board as Ford and Teamsters remain. The action follows a wage and fringe benefit dispute with West Coast dock workers ending a 134 day strike.
London reports crisis talks resume between Northern Ireland premier Brian Faulkner and Prime Minister Edward Heath over Britain's peace plan for Ulster. The two leaders, after a lengthy session, faced Protestant resistance to concessions for Catholics and warned of possible further talks by telephone before any public details emerge.

Agriculture Minister Bud Olson said North American Integrated Food Processors of Saskatoon has not applied for a DREE grant for the $25 million Southern Alberta hog slaughter and processing plant. He urged a formal application and detailed study before any federal funds.
Lester Adams manager of the Medicine Hat Curling Club reported a break in last night between 11 and 12 hours. Five doors were broken and cigarette and pop machines damaged. Machines may be replaced or repaired while bar stocks and receipts are being inventoried. Police declined to comment on the investigation progress.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee urged a new act to redefine the duties of Canada’s auditor general Maxwell Henderson. The panel seeks to grant greater independence, allow own hiring, set salary levels, and resolve repeated delays in the annual report to Parliament citing staff shortages and morale issues.
Opposition leader Robert Stanfield told a Calgary Edmonton fund raising dinner that Prime Minister Trudeau spread a spirit of anger and suspicion with four years of inept government. He pledged to remind Canadians of Trudeau's record and outlined Conservative platform goals including pension adjustments and cutting waste.
The Newfoundland campaign centers on about a quarter of the 41 ridings, with six seats decided by under 100 votes and four by under 275 in October. Frank Moores and Edward Roberts campaign in key battlegrounds, but not in St John’s, which the Conservatives swept previously. The final day features stops in St Barbe South, where Conservatives won by eight votes last fall, as a recount was halted by a ballot fire in Sallys Cove.
