Diefenbaker Wins Hearts On Westward Whistle Stop Tour

Prime minister John Diefenbaker drew large crowds in Maple Creek Irvine and Medicine Hat on a whistle stop tour. About 700 welcomed him in Maple Creek while 350 Irvine school pupils lined the platform to greet him. He spoke of common Canadianism and West pioneer history as he chatted with locals and noted past figures including Sir John A. Macdonald.
