Jets Strafe Bab-el-Oued as French forces push into Algiers

Jet fighters strafed the Bab-el-Oued district while armored cars of the French Army moved into central Algiers amid fierce fighting with European extremist forces. Civilians lobbed grenades as eight jets targeted rooflines and streets. prior clashes left French troops with casualties and the district set ablaze.

City Exempts Machinery From Levy In Provincewide Assessment

Medicine Hat council voted to exempt machinery and equipment added to the provincial equalized assessment from a direct city levy. The exemption shifts a $16 224 burden to education and hospital funds, with two tax rise options to be decided by April 16: widen the business tax or target manufacturers with higher rates. Ald Miller questioned why some equipment was excluded while Kidd noted state act implications.

Moose Jaw police seek armed robber in two Saskatchewan store incidents

Chief Bull says a man described as 20 to 25 years old in a dark jacket and multicolored cap attempted an armed robbery at a Moose Jaw grocery on March 12, firing a rifle during a struggle. He fled, gun discarded, and March 15 Morse saw a break‑in for cash by a man matching the same description. A witness‑stressed multicolored cap aids identification. Mrs Lupa, battered by a wire basket, is reported improving in hospital today.

Talks on Canada rail walkout recessed with no progress

In Montreal talks among CNR, CPR and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers were recessed with no comment on progress toward settlement. CNR President Donald Gordon and CPR President N R Crump led the two hour session described as good exploratory talks, focused on reviewing disputes.

Bus collision on Hill Road in Medicine Hat injures stopped car

Six traffic incidents occurred on slippery streets in Medicine Hat today with only one causing more than 100 dollars in damages. A school bus driven by Alvin Karpjuweit collided with Emanuel Albrecht’s stopped car at Hill Rd and South Railway St at 8:45 a.m. after skidding while attempting to yield.
