Police today thwarted an assassination attempt on Baron Kitokuro Ikki president of the privy council, arresting Daihachi Kikuchi of the Kokusui Taishuto society at Ikki’s home. Nine more men were seized at the group’s headquarters after the raid.
Premier Mussolini ordered the recall of Italy’s 1911 military class totaling about 220,000 men, boosting army strength to roughly 675,000 and bringing total armed forces beyond 1,000,000 with fascist militia. The official communique called the move precautionary amid European tensions and Germany’s arms announcements.
Regina reports from March 23 that the cost of supplying seed grain and other relief seeding necessities will run between six and ten million dollars, according to a government member. Deliveries are daily, but securing sufficient seed oats remains difficult for the government.
