A mob of strike sympathizers attacked workers at the Western Packing Company in Winnipeg injuring two men, one severely. William Jones was beaten and crushed under exerting feet. another man was arrested as tensions escalated today.
Athens March 15. Believed to be disguised as a woman Samwel Insull Sr. sought in Chicago for embezzlement fled his apartment under police cordon. He aimed for Paris with Mrs Insull a maid and two friends detained for questioning. The 74 year old utilities magnate has been a fugitive from the United States for over a year.
Ottawa reporters described a 113 to 94 vote in the House of Commons approving titles for Canadians with three MPs crossing party lines. The debate included Liberal King allies and government supporters defending honors for public service and social work, while opposition framed titles as class distinction and constitutional overreach.
The House of Commons gave first reading to a bill permitting race meetings to run 14 consecutive days when legal, replacing the current rule of 20 intervening days between seven-day periods. The measure was introduced by Dr. Raymond Morand, Conservative MP for East Essex.
