London March 22 The house, in committee on the minimum wage bill, saw Premier Asquith reject the miners amendment fixing a daily wage of 1 25 for men and 64 cents for boys. He warned it would trap parliament into a fixed maximum and risk deadlock.
Frank Harrington and Jalmer Bodie with Charles Anderson and Hylmer Bodie are committed for trial at Lethbridge on charges linked to shooting and stealing horses belonging to A Marchessault of Many Berries. Harrington pleaded guilty. witnesses testified to a multi party plan and multiple shootings of horses near September 11.
In police court Tweed faced drunkenness charges and a fine of 83. He pleaded guilty to transporting five pounds of dynamite left in a restaurant and planned to blast a trench on his homestead. He paid 15 fine and costs. Nellie Brown, 18, faced stealing charges and was remanded for inquiry after admitting a stress exchange with the prosecutor. Charles Murray, charged as a vagrant, was jailed two months, with others remanded for further inquiries into similar offences as they claimed unsteady work.
Long distance service will be shared by the Alberta Government Telephone system connecting Medicine Hat directly with Calgary and Edmonton. The existing route via Lethbridge caused delays and inconveniences. the new line from Medicine Hat to Winnipeg will be the heaviest wire used in Canadian telephone work, providing a notably improved long distance service.

Excavations start for the steam laundry and dye works building proposed by Medicine Hat Steam Laundry Co. Ltd. on Main Street east of the track.
A violent gale near St. John's and Burin causes multiple drownings. Three men drown after the boat overturns in Island Cove Conception Bay and several crew members go overboard from the steamer Portin. The steamer Erna of Glasgow is twenty three days overdue with twenty seven crew feared lost, along with ten crew from the wrecked Coronation. Fears arise for the Newfoundland sealing fleet.
Fire at the Medicine Hat Milling Cogs mill and elevator at Grassy Lake destroyed the mill and 15,000 bushels of grain. The fire began around 9 30 pm from a fire box, causing an estimated loss near 18 000 dollars with grain about 12 000 dollars and partially insured. The company plans immediate rebuilding.
Dispatch from Washington and Madison report underground moves to nominate Justice Hughes as a compromise candidate. New York and Pennsylvania votes are seen as pivotal while William Barnes Jr questions Taft's electability and Roosevelt's path remains uncertain. Wisconsin bars Roosevelt from the Republican primary ballot unless written in as an independent.
