The Medicine Hat Trading Co offers a broad carpet selection including Brussels and Axminster carpets, Japanese floor matting, Smyrna rugs, curtains, blinds, and fixtures. The store also features an up-to-date grocery department with lard eggs butter bacon and garden seeds, plus clean seed wheat and oats.
We have added to our business the latest and most complete testing for spectacles. The store offers free trials and will assess any eyesight deficiency. A large assortment of glasses is on hand and bespoke glasses can be made in one to two weeks.
A serious fire Monday morning at the Cosmopolitan Hotel destroyed the structure and endangered nearby frame buildings east of the hotel. Fire brigades struggled with weak water pressure from the tank, while hose lines from the CPR hydrant and efforts by hook and ladder crews contained the blaze and saved remaining structures.
A special council meeting with Robb Engineering Works of Amherst N S granted permission to submit an estimate for an electric lighting system. A regular meeting followed with Mayor Finlay and Councillors Ross Lane Yuill and Mitchell. minutes from the prior meeting were adopted and various communications noted.
A rapid blaze in Medicine Hat gutted the Cosmopolitan hotel and several adjacent structures. Boarders and staff escaped unharmed while Mrs. Bassett suffered the heaviest losses, with no insurance reported. Fire equipment and town volunteers aided efforts as insurers valued property including Tweed & Ewart’s hotel at 3000 dollars and Waitlton’s buildings at 850 dollars.

A trainload of horses from Washington owned by Cook and Milligan of South St. Paul arrived at the Helena stock yards after eight hours without food or water. By noon Sunday fifty horses were dead and many more sick after drinking stagnant water. Experts suspect waterborne illness after horses drank on empty stomachs, causing rapid deaths.
