Century-old gas wells keep producing in Medicine Hat area
City officials report 313 municipal wells in Medicine Hat Redcliff and Dunmore with 63 producing and 8 suspended. Seventy-nine wells are abandoned surface or downhole while 119 remain operated by 21 other companies with 39 producing gas or oil and 60 in abandonment. The Orphan Well Association oversees idle assets as methane drones are evaluated for future finds.

Voicelliano Trio Wins Rose Bowl at Medicine Hat Rotary
Medicine Hat musicians Stirling Clark Emma Lavigne and Lace Lorentzen known as the Voicelliano Trio earned the Rose Bowl at the 2023 Medicine Hat Rotary Music Festival after a standout 17 and under Chamber Group performance of Heggie and Brahms works. Lorentzen previously won the Rose Bowl in 2019 and 2022 while Clark and Lavigne have been finalists in earlier years. The trio formed in August 2022 and say their unusual vocal piano cello combination adds a fresh voice to the community.

Alberta will require oil and gas firms to show they are within a minimum tax threshold or have repayment plans before new well permits are issued. The plan targets about 220 million dollars in unpaid local taxes, with an estimated 70 million recoverable and 90 million not collectible, as rural municipalities press for payment and clarity.
