In Edmonton the Legislature debated a Factory Act proposal for a nine hour day with power to set an eight hour day by proclamation after 1927. Supporters cited social benefits while opponents warned it could hinder young industries and favored local exceptions for certain sectors.
In Birmingham Alabama on March 20 nine men were instantly killed and ten injured when a Woodward furnace stack exploded. A hole appeared in the stack as men prepared for shift change and molten metal engulfed workers near the stack. Howard Massey a superintendent at Fort Nace was among the dead. The victims were trapped in a cloud of molten metal with no escape.
Winnipeg reports quick job placement for newcomers. Within 15 hours of the second immigrant train, CN railway colonization officials found farm work for 550 of the previous day's arrivals and re‑packed them to final destinations. A third train with 200 more is to be processed before departure.
A joint Dominion and Provincial committee met in Cliff hall to study conditions around Redcliff and find ways to help local farmers. About 80 to 100 farmers attended, urging debt relief, irrigation, artesian wells, dammed sur face water, and demonstration plots to enable expanded farming and discouraged mass settlement shifts.

An earthquake lasting several seconds and a miniature tidal wave startled residents of the Hawaiian Islands at 10 30 p m yesterday. Shocks were felt in several sections about six times with no damage reported.
In Philadelphia on March 20 Canadian Press reports Dr. David Reiter left his widow one dollar of his 15 000 dollar estate in a will executed before his death by his own hand. The will urged her to purchase rope to hang herself. the couple had lived together for twenty five years.
Strathroy Ont March 20 The United Farmers of West Middlesex political association maintains neutrality in the by election for the House of Commons. Liberal candidate Hon John Co Eliott Minister of Labor faces Conservative nominee Thomas Elliott.
In Redcliff EB Stone JP and W Henderson JP presided. R MacKenzie received three years hard labor for burglary. R Milbourne got six months. J Fralmouth and Stanley Riddle ten days and 50 dollars each. M Quick ten days and 20 dollars each on three counts. A Steel James and David Techritter Paul Bresnikoff Chris Seghr drew six months suspended and 50 dollar fines. Walter Robertson two years imprisonment Phillip McKenzie twelve months suspended for the Campeau store burglary in January.
