In a wide dispatch from Kandon March 19 British observers say Germany cannot shift large forces in either east or west. Russians push into East Prussia near Tilsit while the Belgian army, aided by Allied ships, holds the Yser front as a major western battle looms.
Wdloston March 18 The budget debate continued as leader Michener condemned government action. He attacked corporation taxes railway guarantees and extravagance while praising no new points. He challenged bulk estimates and argued debt would be lower if borrowing had not occurred with a two hour speech to be answered by Premier Sifton.
Local CPR volunteers join a 500 man CPR contingent formed for engineering work with Halifax training before deployment to British and French forces. Names of applicants remain undisclosed as Calgary applications continue, with many Medicine Hat men expected to be accepted and possibly assigned to major commissions.
