In Kodiak Alaska the 40 year old fishing vessel Leprechaun began sinking late Tuesday and was slowly going down by Wednesday morning. Harbor workers raced to save it as owner Duke Jones, 65, watched The Quiet Man on TV. He said the boat isn’t worth repairing but it hurts to sink it.
Orv Kope and wife Terry of Medicine Hat claimed a 1.1 million dollar share of Lotto 649 from last Saturday's draw at the Western Canada Lotteries office. Terry bought the ticket at Boylan Drugs in Edmonton. The couple will share the prize with family and plan a trip to Alaska.
Documents filed with the U S Securities and Exchange Commission reveal NovAtel Communications losses at 645.7 million dollars, higher than the 566 million claimed by Alberta. New Democrat Leader Ray Martin calls for an independent commission to audit NovAtel.

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine finds U S hospitals spend about 40 percent more than Canadian hospitals largely due to sicker patients higher admin costs and less efficient use of high tech equipment. The research notes longer stays in Canada but lower costs and highlights differences in services and staffing between the two countries.
