Washington reports say Prime Minister Mulroney and President Reagan agreed on a course for acid rain policy but did not reveal specific details. They also planned to renew the NORAD umbrella treaty and likely sign it on Wednesday. Canada will contribute 800 million dollars over 15 years to the U.S. space station project, earmarked for a space service station.

Fryer said he would exercise his citizen rights while calling for attention to low wages. The action ties to a March 3 highway workers strike with 1200 on one side and 800 public works employers joining four days later.
In Ottawa Pierre Trudeau returns from political seclusion to back Senator Jacques Hebert as he fasts to revive the Katimavik youth program. Trudeau met Hebert in the Senate foyer for a private 35 minute talk and later had lunch with John Turner and Allan MacEachen.
Alberta Solicitor General Ilan Reid proposed prioritizing school zones over general speeding tickets and questioned links between speeding and accidents in a memo to RCMP leadership. The document, obtained by the Edmonton Journal, also called for phasing out unmarked slick cars despite their tactical value, while officials defended continued use alongside marked cruisers and radar.
