Ottawa reports attempts to secure federal aid for a $350 million Alberta to Montreal natural gas pipeline have failed. The company defers construction by about a year, delaying delivery to consumers across the province and Quebec.
In Namao near Edmonton a Royal Canadian Air Force unit grinding tests for cold weather says the unusually warm winter hampers operations. Wing Cmdr. Houle warns of a transfer if winters do not grow colder, noting delays waiting for suitable cold conditions.
Canada’s first national survey of school financing recommends a $150 million annual federal grant for elementary and secondary education. Prepared by Dr. M. E. Lazete, the 229 page report argues for a foundation program, weighted costs, one basic equalization grant, and increased capital aid, with two thirds of federal aid as equalization to provinces with low tax capacity.
John Foster Dulles argued that releasing the Yalta documents would not hinder diplomacy and followed the normal publication practice of the State Department.
