Rescue 40 from Shark Filled Waters Near Pearl Harbor
Navy reports that 40 crew members from the destroyer Elder were rescued after a fire and explosion left the vessel stricken and drifting in shark infested waters for a week. The tender Piedmont picked up 26 men from life boats and rafts, while 14 Elder sailors stayed aboard to fight the blaze and were later found in good to excellent condition.
