Edmonton debate approves a cadet training reform motion after amendments. Fred J. White leads the Labor group with a plan to shift physical training time to cadet purposes while critics argue the policy promotes military ideals.
Ottawa reports Alberta coal to Ontaglo moved at a trial rate of 6.75 dollars per ton for three months across three successive years. The Board of Railway Commissioners will supervise costs and prepare detailed cost reports while parties confirm the findings. A separate note says loading machines for coal into box cars were moved to the free list.
Gordon Metcalf aged 22 was found guilty and fined $10 plus costs for assaulting fourteen year old Henry Philips last night. Prosecution said Metcalf, living with relatives, forced to leave their home, met the boy at the house and struck him in the face claiming Phillips caused his eviction notice.
Los Angeles, March 17. City officials accept moral responsibility for St Francis dam disaster losses and begin restitution efforts. The Chamber of Commerce proposes a rehabilitation program estimated at 1 000 000 in property damage, well below prior estimates. 243 known dead, 209 identified, 34 unidentified. Ventura reports 273 homes destroyed in the Santa Clara valley with many groves buried in silt.
In San Francisco on March 17 the Examiner details Mrs. S. H. Weil's revival following a five minute cessation of heartbeat respiration and pulse. Dr. Howard Hartziger operated at UC Hospital removing a brain base tumor. Weil describes a near death experience and is expected to recover.
Gull Lake Saskatchewan March 17 coroner s jury ruled James Gibson was accidentally killed in the performance of his duties while in employ of the C P I. Jurors deliberated about possible runway negligence but returned an open verdict after four hours without riders. Gibson fell from a car while loading steel on Thursday.
A tornado swept five western Alabama communities near Selma on March 17, killing three people and injuring five others.
Winnipeg on March 17 reports wheat inspections with 394 total cars inspected this year versus 395 last year. Contract grade cars total 102, down from 120 the previous year.
An enthusiastic audience enjoying the annual St. Patrick's concert in the Empress Theatre. Father Fitzpatrick chaired in Rev. Moriarty’s absence and Mayor Bullivant spoke on notable Irish figures in history. Performances included dancing by Rita Hosie, Jeanette Price, Alice Shannon, Lily Hosmer, Doreen Quinlan, vocal numbers by J. Connors and others, guitar by K. G. Coe, and piano solos by Mary Laws with several accompanists.
Alexander Subketi husband of Princess Victoria of Schaumperg Lipne left Germany after expulsion orders and intends to sail for the Belgian Congo. He arrived in Brussels alone and checked into a second class hotel as his main baggage moved to Antwerp. The princess denied any flight or divorce plans and said they are happy.
The House approved a $27,090,000 new warship construction program and sent it to the Senate. The vote was 287 to 57 with the weather noted as Fair and Mild and a temperature of 48 and 20.
The search for the missing trans Atlantic monoplane Endeavor and its two English occupants, Captain Walter Hinchliffe and Hon. Elsie Mackay, was regarded as a forlorn hope. Despite a plane heard near Greenville Maine, no evidence tied to the Endeavor emerged. Sheriff Adelbert G. Rogers said woodsmen would have known of a landing, and telephone checks of lumber camps yielded no sightings.

Shumaway, operator of cafe chains, is also said to be abducted though family says he is away on business. Harvey Watson, labor leader, is held for 25,000 dollars. Ransom notes sent to local AFL officials were turned over to police.
Sixteen men armed with shotguns overpowered the Liberty Bank truck driver and guard in Buffalo. They disarmed the crew and escaped with 24000 dollars in cash this morning. Police hunt suspects.
Miss Nancy Ann Miller of Seattle is admitted to the Bhangar caste as a prelude to marriage to Tukoji Rao, former Maharajah of Indore. She is adopted into the Holkar family, taking the Hindu name Devi Sharmista and the title Maharanee. An Exchange Telegraph report also notes Miss Miller may undergo appendicitis surgery and plan a European voyage after the wedding.
Wheat drew good action in Winnipeg as local and foreign interests absorbed offers. Closing quotations rose 7 to 8 cents, with strength linked to bullish Chicago prices after reports of winter wheat crop issues. Demand was strong for Numbers 4, 5 and 6 feed cash wheat from shippers. All coarse grains except flax showed solid demand for domestic and export use.
