A six man coroner's jury in Medicine Hat recommends legislation at the earliest opportunity to require regular gas inspections in all occupied houses especially those with radiant gas heaters. The inquest into 93 year old John James Lait's death from carbon monoxide in his home cited inadequate heater combustion and cold air conditions. The jury urged public advisement on radiant heaters and urged inspection calls to city inspectors for rented premises.
Alberta Liberal MP Mike Maccagno argues for limited development of the Athabasca oil sands to spur the region's economy.
