Alberta MLAs defeated in the election will receive an establishment allowance and severance pay totaling about $226000 for nine members. The year’s retirements cost about $850000, with 54,630 dollars annual salary and a minimum six months pay for each former member. Seventeen MLAs said they would not run again, seven of whom had served since 1986.

Police say a woman struck a man over the head with a frying pan in Halifax. The victim is in serious condition and another woman is in custody awaiting charges of attempted murder.
