Carson City Nevada AP reports Jessi Winchester a former prostitute and motorcycle stuntwoman has filed to run as a Democrat for one of Nevada's two House seats. She cites varied life experience as qualification for Congress.
In Dunblane a 44 year old man with four guns stormed Dunblane Primary School killing 16 children and a teacher before taking his own life. Twelve others were wounded and two teachers hospitalized. The incident revived debate over UK gun laws.
More than 2,000 residents complain that new concrete barriers at the Dunmore Road Southview Drive intersection limit access to businesses. Business leaders urge creating traffic islands to restore entry while preserving safety, as two post construction accidents occurred from driver error.
In Edmonton Alberta the Court of Appeal upheld transferring two teens charged with Danelesko death to adult court raising potential life sentences. Danelesko died from a stab wound after intruders broke into her home on April 16 1994. One teen was tried in Youth Court in 1994 and convicted of manslaughter receiving three years.
Rex MP Jim Silye broke down after a caucus meeting where he was chastised for criticizing extremist elements within Reform. He apologized to colleagues and promised greater self discipline, saying he cares about people and regrets hurting them. Jan Brown also faced a dressing down and was escorted from the meeting by adviser Rick Anderson.
In Forestburg area Alberta residents backed a private hospital plan. About 200 rural Albertans approved a motion to grant a private company, Hotel de Health, control of the nearby Galahad hospital despite opposition from community reps. vote 116 to 58. Don Scott said private investment is needed to keep the hospital open after provincial cuts.
