Five year vigil ends for Medicine Hat POW parents
Bill and Dora Barnett of Medicine Hat awaited word that their son Robert, a 43 year old U S Air Force colonel, would be released from a Hanoi area POW camp. Robert Barnett was shot down in Vietnam in 1967 and has spent five and a half years as a prisoner. He will join his wife in Los Angeles after returning home with 14 years in the Air Force.

B C proposes rail route for Alaska oil
Premier Dave Barrett and resources minister Bob Williams pitched a BC Rail overland route to move American Arctic oil from Prudhoe Bay via Fairbanks to the Yukon border for transport to US markets. The plan, a multi billion dollar alternative to pipelines, would haul oil and possibly LNG down to BC Rail with up to 11 000 tank cars and 360 locomotives and 4500 jobs.

Manslaughter charge laid in Ethyl David death
