Sanjel confirms it will suspend operations at its Medicine Hat facility on March 31 citing oil price uncertainty since late 2014. Medicine Hat trimmed its 2010 Public Safety bylaw draft to drop public swearing spitting and urination while targeting obstructive panhandling and loitering. Police noted defecation and public urination are rare and called the bylaw a mismatch to needs, with bylaw focusing on local community standards and behavior. Former alderman Hamill dissented on the revised measure, arguing policing such conduct is near impossible.
