Drunk Driver Conviction Overturned by Saskatchewan Court of Appeal

The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal overturned Roland Mohl s drunk driving conviction ruling he was too drunk to understand police warned him of his right to a lawyer. The court found RCMP violated Charter rights by informing him of counsel when he was "absolutely stoned." Police and prosecutors warned the ruling may complicate enforcement in similar cases.

Pensioners had influence on drug trafficking case

In Powell River British Columbia two elderly pensioners, Louis Hruschak aged 78 and Jassie 68, were fined for possession of marijuana for trafficking. Judge Carol Huddart refused jail due to age but imposed 2000 and 1000 dollar penalties, noting their monthly pension of 730 dollars as their sole income.

Mulroney reshuffles aides amid popularity slump

Prime Minister Brian Mulroney dismissed press secretary Michel Gratton and reassigned senior adviser Fred Doucet to lead a summit committee. Alberta to Build Third Ethylene Plant at Joffre

Premier Don Getty and Larry Sha ben announced a $400 million Alberta Gas Ethylene Co project at Joffre east of Red Deer. The plant aims for 680 000 metric tons annually, employing about 1 000 during construction and 200 to 300 permanent workers from 1991, with no provincial funding.
