Alberta moves to appeal to Privy Council
Premier Aberhart announced Alberta will appeal to the Privy Council against Supreme Court of Canada rulings that three provincial laws were unconstitutional and upheld federal disallowance and lieutenant governor assent powers. Alberta signs unemployment aid grant in protest
In Edmonton March 10 the Alberta legislature heard Health Minister W W Cross say the $125 000 monthly federal grant in aid of unemployment relief was signed under protest to obtain the funds. He noted amendments were urged but the signed agreement remained essentially unchanged. The delay in payment followed until the agreement was altered. The minister described the advisory discussions among mayors and relief officials and the plan to renew the relief scale with Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
