Health Minister Dr. J. Donovan Ross said 60,000 Albertans face an alcohol health problem, with 20,000 in compulsion alcoholism and 40,000 having serious control issues. The 1964-65 budget proposes a grant rise to 300,000 for the Alberta alcoholism foundation, the first increase since 1959, urging business support due to vital interests.
Health Minister Ross defended Alberta's medical plan calling it the best while acknowledging gaps in enrollment and an upcoming open period to boost participation. He noted provincial autonomy over hospital administration and outlined plans for cancer screening, industrial health, and future coverage expansions to include dental and other services. Gordie Tapp of CBC Country Hoedown fame may headline Medicine Hat Stampede night show this year. Stampede directors approved a principle contract Monday, expected to sign within a week. Col D A Scholten says the deal covers Tapp’s entire program including the Haymes Sisters, Tommy Hunter, Tommy Common and probably Al Cherny.
Medicine Hat buys Central Motors site at 6th Ave beside The NEWS building for 70000 dollars. The 150 by 125 foot lot may host a cut off road linking 1st St SE north of the intersection to 6th Ave to ease bottleneck traffic. The NEWS and Empress Theatre would be the only structures between 1st St and Finlay Bridge on 6th Ave.

In central Cyprus fighting erupted again in Mallia on the Troodos slopes as British troops moved to contain a possible broader war between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. A government spokesman cited casualties including two Turks killed and 18 wounded and one Greek killed with 13 wounded in Kuma, amid urgent talks to restore peace.
Alex Kaleta city recreation director says the recreation commission will recommend a fastball diamond with floodlights at Lions Park funded by its accumulated $10,000. The statement notes the commission is prepared to spend the money on the project.

Transport Minister declined to estimate the value of three planes and related equipment sold by Trans-Canada Air Lines to TransAir Limited for a nominal 1 dollar.
