Nelson British Columbia police say a new clue may lead to early arrests in the $500000 power pole bombing. A 200 man RCMP detachment has found information believed to help identify saboteurs, with no reward claims yet filed.
Over 1000 workers at Consolidated Mining and Smelting in Trail may lose jobs during repairs to the 366 foot tower carrying power lines to the smelter. Nelson officials urge talks with the attorney general on new measures to handle the unrest. A special penal institution for Freedomite offenders will be set up near Chilliwack. RCMP aircraft fly five officers from Edmonton Calgary and Lethbridge to the Nelson area for reinforcement.
In police court this morning five local youths pleaded guilty to being minors in possession of liquor and were fined a total of 150 dollars plus costs. Magistrate H W D Cox offered 30 days in jail as an alternative. The group included Dale Melbourne 18 Alfred LaRose 19 Eugene W Beaupre 20 Ralph Eresman 18 and a 16 year old who appeared with his father. Police described beer on the floor a toppled table and an apparent altercation. Beaupre required emergency facial treatment after arrest.
In Edmonton members of the legislature attacked federal finances and Alberta justice administration while a minister criticized the press. Adolph Fimrite urged Canada to mimic Europe to spur business and lamented high taxes and interest rates. Ashley Cooper compared Manitoba finances to Ottawa. Norman Willmore accused papers of opposition campaigning.
UN wheat conference approves a three year price rise for Manitoba Northern No 1 wheat from 1 50 to 1 62 42 and from 1 90 to 2 02 per bushel delegates say. Canada backs the deal and notes more exporters and possible Soviet Union participation. The measure must be approved by 59 governments and could take effect August 1.

In Gleichen Alberta a blizzard on the Blackfoot reserve killed two girls, Mabel Crane-Bear 13 and Belinda Raw-Eater 11, while Geraldine Black-Rider 11 survived frostbitten but alive. Geraldine guided police to the frozen victims after seeking help.
French and Algerian authorities pressed Evian cease-fire talks while clashes surged near the border. Across Africa a DC-7C killed 111 aboard, and storms battered six Atlantic states causing extensive damage. Canada discussed disarmament, Viet Nam, and political shifts in Britain and BCs Doukhobor violence.
The curling rink buzzed as Medicine Hat launched its annual men’s bonspiel with 88 rinks entered, 39 from out of town. Merchants pressed City Council for shopping hours bylaw amid festival prep and local tax talks.
Alberta politician Harry Strom argues in the legislature for lower taxes to entice private enterprise and foreign capital to fuel industrial expansion. He calls for a federal provincial accord on ARDA programs, a fodder bank for drought relief, extended farm credit, a Brooks horticultural pilot plant and better up stream dam planning.
