London reports the German fleet of at least fifty big warships seen off Ter Schelling Island in the North Sea. A large grey armed trawler fleet, two big Zeppelins, and submarines followed, with five large courses of unknown nationality seen Monday.
President Wilson authorized a punitive expedition to pursue Pancho Villa and his raiders from Columbus New Mexico into Mexico with the goal of capturing him dead or alive. Winnipeg March 9 the Manitoba legislature passed the third reading of a bill removing the bilingual clause from the public school act after a division 85 to 8. A. Edmonton March 9 Hon C R Mitchell Provincial Treasurer delivered a budget speech lasting nearly two hours. He described a deficit of about half a million dollars due to accounting methods and deferred payments totalling 773 400, promising a surplus this year and short date loans to cover deferred bills. The government aims to expand public service without increasing taxes unless conditions change.
Peter Wise was acquitted of stealing and selling a steer claimed by David Trimble. The court debated the brand with observers noting an inverted mark read as SY, but Justice Walsh ruled the steer bore the Trimble brand 2V with quarter circle. Wise testified about cattle roping. defense cited possible misbranding in 1914.

Admiral Lord Beresford, in the House of Lords, backs First Lord of the Admiralty A. J. Balfour. He deprecates statements of naval unpreparedness and says the navy has faith in the Commander-in Chief and the present Board. He urges the country to trust the navy’s honor in Balfour’s hands.
W J O Neail solicitor for Talia Johnston filed a damages suit against the city for 335 dollars and costs after she fell on a sidewalk at Kent's corner, breaking her wrist. The claim breaks down to 300 dollars general damages and 26 dollars for doctors bills and costs.
