London March 10 A nineteen hour sitting of the House of Commons ended in stormy scenes as land clauses of the budget were debated. Nationalists caused uproar while Captain James Craig challenged the chair prompting a riot scare recalling 1901 police intervention.
Regina March 10 Tonight in City Hall a public meeting will discuss the council’s policy of excluding the press and public from committee sessions. A. S. Wells leads, with Dr. Cowan outlining impacts on citizens and labor. The dispute covers publicity, funding, and the potential creation of a dedicated industrial official.
About 150 Mexican refugees in Douglas were surrounded by American troops last night and placed under arrest. They gathered near the border after word of a rebel force before Agua Prieta, and officials believe they planned to join rebels if an assault occurred.
City Council discussed establishing an industrial commissioner to promote business in Calgary. The city solicitor said duties may be limited by the charter but he would supervise locating industries and arranging their entry, with only publicity concerns limiting action.
A successful smoker hosted by the S.C.E. in Eagle's hall last evening drew about eighty members. Walter Huckvale chaired a lively program with piano solos by Mordant Crisall and Jos Leonard, mandolin by G Tuggy, banjo by J Gray, vocalists A H Porter Frank Stock C Prince G Tuggy J Bruce W Hooper J Gardiner and J J McDonald. Members enjoyed churchwarden pipes and tobacco as the hall filled with a blue mist and a tasty spread closed the event near midnight.
At yesterday’s council session the Board of Trade decided not to pass any reciprocity resolution, citing civic rather than political work. The meeting also reviewed several advertising propositions not yet ready for public release. H. C. Cooper shipped twenty cwt of ice this season.
Regina March 10 The Legislature remains in session after an all night grind with the endurance contest likely to extend to Saturday. Opponents demand a pledge that the general election will not occur until the voter lists are revised.
Moscow March 10 Mme Verschh agin widow of a famed artist who died when the battleship Petropevrovsk exploded by a mine at Port Arthur during the Russo Japanese War committed suicide today by shooting. She had been a cancer sufferer.
A. P. Burns received the contract to construct the quarantine station, buildings, and yards at the Willow Creek detachment of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police.
Winnipeg markets report dated March 10 shows May wheat at 1 2X, July 1 at 93 1/3, Oct near 88 percent. Cash bids for wheat noted at 8 1/2 to 1 3/4 cents. Oats No 2 CW 30, flax prices steady with May at 2.50 and July 2.40.
Winnipeg dispatch reports the Free Press states Hon. C. R. Caldwell plans to resign as Minister of Education amid differences with Attorney General Hon Colin Campbell. The timing may be imminent.
Mr. C. G. Milner sold his stationery business to Mr. James Wilson who will operate it in the future.

A massive blast at the Laflin Rand Powder Co plant in Pleasant Prairie Wisconsin killed at least one and injured many as a dynamite and powder explosion collapsed buildings. The shock was felt across Chicago and beyond with widespread panic, shattered windows, and extensive property damage estimated over 1.5 million dollars.
The steamer Mona from Australia caught fire in her bunkers while northbound after seven days at sea. Fire began in the starboard bunker en route to Suva, then in the port bunkers later, with 600 tons of coal burning. crew fought the flames and kept it from reaching Honolulu where quarantine restrictions limited cargo. The voyage carried the new South Sea Islands governor Sir Henry and his family.
Edmonton reports beef prices rising in Alberta per Pat Burns of Calgary. Cattlemen ship stock out of the province and young cattle perish this winter, pushing prices higher. Also notes St Barnabas Society meeting with program including Walter Rogers on Wife in India and papers by Mrs Northam and Mr Newton.
E A Davis protests a Wednesday issue claim that he officiated at a marriage involving a thirteen year old bride. He states the bride was eighteen, the license issuer confirmed consent affidavits, and asks for correction.
The funeral of Edgar Dunham, who died in Medicine Hat, was held Sunday at 2 30 p.m. from O J Dunham’s residence on Brydges Street. Rev G A Trawson conducted the service at the house, with about fifty Knights of Pythias members in attendance. A funeral procession followed to Elmwood Cemetery, with pallbearers listed and numerous floral tributes from family, friends, and local firms.
The Misses Trumpets announce a spring millinery opening at The Glasgow House on March 16 17 and 18 2056. A. P. Burna offers a monthly payment plan for house builders. The first test vote on reciprocity produced a government majority of 41 at Ottawa last evening. Two cabinet defectors, Sifton and Lloyd Harris, spoke against the agreement, while William German was absent. Seely aligned with the government on fruit schedules and may move to request further delay for a national verdict on the proposals.
May bore Maple Creek council hears J Rae and J Becker from Medicine Hat propose bringing natural gas for a 25 year franchise with nominal taxes. Council rejects long term grant. Rae says gas may exist locally but if not, gas could be piped from Irkime or another source.
Mr E J R Walton sold his 95 foot Main Street and Fifth Avenue lot for about 16000 dollars. Fifty feet to E D Bennett and forty five feet to A P Day. Five Canadian Senators named for London coronation representing both major parties. Local ads urge home ownership and an instalment plan with A P Burns.
