Edmonton Real Estate Board president Ken Shearer says Getty’s interest-relief scheme is unnecessary and would raise prices, warning it could lift 1989 gains to about 10 percent. He notes high January February sales and February single-family home prices averaging $94,413, up 13 percent.
Premier Don Getty promised 18 million dollars next year to pave all Alberta secondary roads and 23 million to cut diesel by five cents a litre, financed by a broader 41 million in 1988. Farmers welcomed the road plan while critics argued diesel aid favors larger operators and excludes purple gas.

Ottawa regulators plan to force Imperial Oil to sell nearly 30 percent of its refined and marketed operations from its Texaco Canada takeover. The move targets refining and marketing in Eastern Canada and includes the Nanticoke Ontario refinery, valued around 1 billion dollars, seen as a key asset in the deal.
