East Vancouver house burgled three times in four months

In east Vancouver a three storey brick house has suffered three burglaries in four months. Stolen items include a stereo and video recorder three bicycles a backpack a turntable a rug and even a bus pass. Tenants Kate Battle and Brenda Cockfield posted a sign detailing the thefts and remaining valuables.

Senate panel urges clear rules to withdraw life support

CP Rail talks derailed as unions threaten strike

Negotiations with CP Rail broke off over job security and shopcraft rules. CAW president Buzz Hargrove said the earliest strike date is March 15, with a strike deadline missed, and unions plan newspaper ads urging alternative shipments while keeping critical segments running where feasible. Suffield mustangs endure abuse to survive and thrive

Calgary Herald reports Bruneau Suffield horses will outlive abuse as the Suffield Mustang Association outlines a plan for permanent registration and breeding. Eldon Eadie and Marlene Bruneau cite preservation of 23 mature stallions and 30 stud colts and recruitment of 75 owners to back a lasting breed amid a roundup that diverted about one third of 1200 horses to meat plants.

Chretien calls for major cut to Canada health care costs

Prime Minister Jean Chretien urged reducing health care spending by at least 7.5 to 10 billion dollars, aiming to cut the share of GDP spent on health care from about 10 percent toward eight to nine percent.
