In the House of Commons committee, Conservative N. Stevens urged clarification as the government outlined the bill’s scope. The bill covers not all soldier settlers, excluding those on free lands, those who own their lands, and others who fully paid loans or lost property unless land remains available for revaluation.

Telecom repayment provisions debated in legislature

Ranch Home on the Z-7 burns in early morning fire
The commodious ranch house owned by James Mitchell near the river on the Z-7 was totally destroyed by fire Friday morning around 8. The blaze started in the roof as occupants escaped with their clothing. Foreman Alfrey and five men were inside but could not stop the fire, heat from ground floor natural gas heating. The barns and outbuildings were saved.

Alberta Railways Transfer Plans Shown in Edmonton Agreement
Edmonton March 5 Premier Brownlee tabled in the Legislature the operating agreement between the National Railways and the Alberta companies E D and B C and Central Canada. It states the National Railways will be the exclusive connection for interchange and Alberta must obtain consent before any joint traffic venture. The accord allows National to use Edmonton terminals and staff for handling traffic with Edmonton junctions, with specified freight charges and through traffic pro rated between Alberta firms and National Railways. Grain shipments to Port Arthur Fort William Vancouver and Prince Rupert are pro rated by mileage.

Four Men Seized After Pistol Fight In Whiskey Heist
Chicago authorities report more than 600 feet of hose used to siphon bonded whiskey from a government warehouse. Four men including W. O'Donnell and John Barry were captured after a spectacular gun battle while raiders trailed hoses to fuel a tank battery in an apartment building. A fifth suspect fled during the exchange as police closed in.
