City Post, a private mail delivery firm in Medicine Hat, closed Wednesday evening. Partners John Stanley and Louis LeBlanc said losses and inability to win large bank accounts, due to questionable legal status under the Canada Post Corporation Act, ended the venture after operating since January. Five employees lost jobs.

Toxic ethylene dichloride spill from CN derailment near Blue River
A CN train derailment 180 kilometres north of Kamloops dumped 36 000 litres of ethylene dichloride into the North Thompson River. No illnesses reported yet though downstream water use is advised not to drink for 24 hours. Eight tanker cars of ethylene glycol and other chemicals also derailed.
