Reports from Berlin via London say Douaumont remains a focal point with heavy fighting. The French launched counter attacks regaining part of ground, while German forces hold and push near Malancourt and Woevre as artillery fire continues along the front.
Paris reports Verdun resumed fighting with heavy bombardment and planned second thrusts by German forces aimed at Pepper Hill Douaumont and west of the Meuse. French troops fortified positions while awaiting the outcome with confidence after German artillery prep.
About nineteen new recruits join the 175th this morning and fourteen yesterday from Emprese and Acadia boost the roll. The regiment nears 600 as officers in the field expand recruitment. A call for sixteen machine gun corps volunteers appears with many transfers and postings across bands, signalling, and company staff.
Paris reports the Provence was sunk in the Mediterranean on February 26 with nearly 4,000 aboard. Reports from Leghorn and La Rochelle describe the sinking of two French steamers Giava and Lakrne off the Atlantic coast. The Giava carried no Americans and was sunk by an Austrian submarine. A German admiralty statement claimed submarines sank two armed auxiliary cruisers, a claim French officials deny.

Mr Tweedie urged teaching all schoolchildren to memorize and sing the national anthem and to restrict anthem teaching to British subjects, citing public singing shortcomings in Southern Alberta.
Master Jackie Flanagan three and a half, son of May and Mrs. Thomas Flanagan of 509 Thira St, died from burns after a nightie caught fire from a match. The boy was playing in the kitchen when flames arose. his mother quickly smothered the fire with a blanket. He was rushed to hospital but died this morning after the incident. Funeral set for tomorrow at 2:30 PM near St Patrick's church.
The School Board says their fiscal agents McKenzie and Co have already disposed of about $60,000 worth of the board’s bonds at a good figure.
Regina March 3 A royal commission of two Saskatchewan supreme court judges will be appointed to investigate bribery charges. It will probe December 1913 Liberal bribery attempts against an anti war bill and a 1916 conspiracy to influence lawmakers over liquor policy. The commission stems from J E Bradshaw allegations and is endorsed by Acting Premier Calder and Attorney General Turgeon.
