Calgary report confirms the idea of prairie provinces severing from the west was seriously discussed at a grain growers meeting in Regina. W J Tregillus says the notion arose informally from a Regina Leader letter by a Nokomis farmer, not at a formal session.
Moose Jaw dispatch reports a freight wreck near Hawarden at 430 PM on the Moose Jaw Outlook branch. Engineer Enei neer Timmons was killed instantly and fireman C E Scott was injured. A broken axle is rumored as the cause. Timmons leaves four children, the youngest one month old. A CPR medical team and officials were sent to the scene.
Mr. Josh W. Hargrave of J. G. Hargrave & Co. Ltd. Winnipeg announces the firm has been awarded a contract to construct 30 miles of CPR roadbed from Suffield to a point southwest, moving 700000 cubic yards of earth and expanding grading. Construction will begin when weather allows, with crews shifting from Bassano north to Suffield after work there. Headquarters remain in Winnipeg.
The Morning Post interviews Antarctic explorer Horchgrevink on Amundsen and Scott routes. He says Amundsen faces unknown conditions, lacks a doctor, and may push straight to the pole. Fort William March 4 A search party found remains along a north course of Lake Nipigon from a CP survey crew. A hand and a shin were found in snow near wolf tracks. four wolves were shot at the scene. A mail bag with two letters and a brass lock were recovered. This is the second case in ten days, as wolves chased another contractor into sand point. Camps are warned to stay indoors after sundown due to ravenous packs.
Mrs William Davidge died at Western Hospital prompting murder charges against her husband and prominent Toronto physician Benjamin Hawke. Davidge arrested without bail while Hawke fled the city. warrants issued for illegal operation and procuring the operation. Davidge says he knew nothing of the operation and the ante mortem statement denies coercion. Hawke, an educator and curler, previously faced a similar charge and was acquitted.
