City council seeks funds for gas and water extensions

At the regular meeting Mayor Milne and aldermen discussed upcoming bylaw votes to issue debentures of 20000 dollars for a gas boring rig and gas system extension and 36000 dollars for waterworks expansion. Meetings also covered staffing, audits, sidewalk and sewer petitions, and city finance items.

School Board Mulls New Building Plans and Costs

The School Board met in special session to review architect Williams plans for a new school costing about 36 000 last fall, with estimates now likely to rise to 45 000 due to material and labor costs. Trustees Kennedy and White favored adoption. Hawthorne urged delaying to confirm location needs. a definite construction estimate was requested.

Gas Well Output Rises After Deepening at Bow Island

Canadian expert Eugene Coste inspected the CPR gas well at Bow Island. By drilling 15 to 20 feet deeper the daily flow rose from 4.5 million to 7 million cubic feet, with the well capped and a guaranteed 35 000 horsepower daily output. The item also notes plans for a Masonic business block, a hospital fundraiser concert, and local spring events at Miss Morden’s millinery opening plus church mission meetings.

Memobellenary Program Returns for Hospital Benefit

Arrangements have been made for a Memobellenary program previously held by the YMCA last week to be repeated tomorrow evening at the Opera House to benefit the Hospital.

Nomination of Hon W J Finlay by Rutherford supporters

A Rutherford administration rally in Medicine Hat elected officers and endorsed Hon. W J Finlay for nomination. Dr O Boyd chaired, D G White as secretary pro tem, with a campaign and finance committee named. Finlay's nomination drew prolonged cheers and seed grain arrangements were announced for local farmers. The program included a Presbyterian Church event and a YMCA entertainment featuring Ten Nights in a Bar Room.

Presentation for W. N. Adsit at retirement surprise

Mr. W. N. Adsit received a pleasant surprise Saturday afternoon as he relinquished his duties as City treasurer. Old comrades in city service and friends presented a handsome case of pipes and a cigar holder. J. J. McDonald led the presentation with remarks from Ex-Mayor W. Ji. Marshall Alderman McKay and others. A half hour of cordial good wishes followed.

Nominations Close Amid Cheers at Medicine Hat Meeting

Mr. Finlay receives praise as he accepts the nomination for Minister of Agriculture and representative in the first Provincial Legislature. Proposals highlighted include a $140,000 traffic bridge, new roads, and the upcoming $40,000 Court House. A Demonstration Dry Farm will be established nearby, run by Prof. Campbell's assistants.

Southern Alberta Land Company Plans Electric Line Route

Surveyors completed preliminary work for an electric railway from Medicine Hat with a one per cent grade and a terminus at the CPR depot. The line will run along South Railway Street to the Esplanade, up 4th Avenue across Finlay Bridge, past Police Point and onto the company’s land.

Railway men plan Medicine Hat visit this year

W A Robbins and D W M Peart of the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company indicate both officials will visit Medicine Hat this year. They praised Mr Marshall's advertising during his trip and refer to the “Old Glory” gusher shown in photographs. The YMCA entertainment will feature Miss M Morden Milliner in Medicine Hat. The Women's Missionary Society met at St John’s Church basement with Miss Morrison speaking on Dr Grenfell’s Labrador work and Mrs Wilson on Homan.

Water purification and city sewage disposal debated

Medicine Hat hosted Prof. W. Muir Edwards of the University of Alberta to explain sewage treatment and water supply improvements. He warned against soil-based disposal, urged water carriage systems when feasible, and stressed controlling bacteria to prevent public health risks.
