Hat woman killed in Medicine Hat car collision
Ruth Stewart, 66, of Division Ave S, died in Medicine Hat General Hospital after being struck by a car at the intersection of 1st St S.E and Division Ave. The driver, Carl Ferchau, 67, of Redcliff, reported no injuries. Vehicle damage listed at 10 dollars.

Alberta budget forecast shows widening deficit and tax shifts
Alberta's 1968 budget projects a 70.5 million deficit after tax hikes to raise fuel tax to 15 cents a gallon from June 1. An $18 million revenue boost plus $3 million from license fees are planned, with total expenses seen at a record $893.17 million and revenues at $822.72 million. The primary revenue source remains naval resources and oil, gas, and leasing revenues. Education and health take 52 percent of the outlays, with health at $195.14 million and education at $275.25 million. Public works is reduced by $64.12 million. homeowners’ tax discount remains at $50. Legislation would raise members' indemnities to $7,200 and ministers' salaries to $15,000.
