Detroit judge William Sexton placed 88 year old William Leigh under guardianship after his daughter Mrs Wealthie A Whetstone petitioned for protection. The guardian said he is a spendthrift who drinks away his monthly 76 dollar pension when he receives it.
The Alberta legislature committee on education meets Monday March 8 at 10 a.m. for hearings on policies and practices. MLA Elizabeth G Robinson of Medicine Hat chairs the house committee and will receive representations from constituents. The session may run a week to ten days with input from the Alberta Teachers Association, Alberta Home and School Association, and local businessmen.

He says a depression is unnecessary and notes unemployment rises to about 524 000 seeking work by Jan 21 and 280 000 jobless by Jan 23 with 186 000 more unemployed since Dec. 10.
Medicine Hat posted an unemployment figure of 1 115 in mid January up from 813 in mid December and rising to 1 233 by mid February. The two month increase is just under 40 percent.
About 125 members of a left wing United Electrical Workers group lobbied MPs to back an anti depression program drafted at Ottawa. The seven page memo warned of crisis unemployment and low mood while urging removal of trade barriers with Iron Curtain powers and winning back the Commonwealth market. It urged higher unemployment insurance, mortgage foreclosure relief, and accelerated housing with lower mortgage rates.
