Ottawa March 1 The House business committee heard from Stratford Ontario Mayor O J Kerr that price clubs wielded by chain and department stores push down wages and morale in furniture plants. He cited a $10.92 cost item sold for 11.92 to Toronto stores and a wardrobe costing 10.84 produced for 11 but sold to the public for 18.70. He warned of a four week September strike and piecework rates dropping to as little as 0.76 to 2.96 per 10 hours. Special investigators will probe the industry and wages with workers and firms summoned.
