A bill in the Alberta legislature would require towns and villages to establish civil defence organizations. Municipal Affairs Minister Gerhart said the move is needed because smaller companies are unwilling to support this essential work. Some expenditures will be underwritten by the province.
Edmonton beerwaiters apply to the province for a strike vote after hotel owners reject an arbitration award granting a 40 hour five day week and longer vacations.
