Man seeks name change to famous Quebec politician

A Quebec man, Michel Dumont, who served 34 months in prison for a rape he did not commit and was later acquitted, has applied to change his name to Jean Charest. He says the move is to shed the burden of the wrongful conviction and cites the notoriety of the name.

Brooks Officers Aid RCMP With Bylaw Enforcement Load

Brooks Protective Services three special constables assist the RCMP handling city bylaw calls freeing RCMP to focus on serious crimes. Director Kevin Swanson notes the mandate covers bylaws and provincial statutes. Fire department emergency calls nearly match last year with 32 in May and 124 this year versus 125 in 2005. Brooks also logged one Photo Laser Radar duty, issuing 57 speeding tickets. total to date 111, below last year’s 238 by this point.

Conservation projects set to go in Saskatchewan

Eight research and conservation efforts will receive 144,675 from Saskatchewan Environment's Fish and Wildlife Development Fund. The University of Regina gets 58,675 for pelican and cormorant work and a census of colonial birds. Nature Saskatchewan gets 86,000 for programs on water habitats, piping plovers, burrowing owls, shrubs for shrikes, plant rescue, and related censuses.

Grants awarded to Alberta groups for education and human rights

Ten Alberta organizations receive over 350000 in funding to develop education materials host workshops and pursue partnership projects that foster diversity equality and inclusion. Grants come from the Human Rights Citizenship and Multiculturalism Education Fund chaired by Fred Lindsay MLA.
