City bylaw bans smoking in public places for under 18
A new city bylaw takes effect July 1 banning smoking in all public places accessible to those under 18. Enclosed smoking areas may be set up by owners where minors are prohibited, with walls and self closing doors. Violations incur fines from 200 to 10000 and possible imprisonment up to one year.
Youth jobs end as smoke bylaw takes effect Monday
Cody Weiss a 15 year old concession supervisor at Top Hat Bingo Association will be out of work as of Monday under Medicine Hat bylaw 3384 the smoking bylaw. The rule requires staff and volunteers to be 18 or over in smoking facilities impacting four long term employees and numerous under 18 volunteers.
