Calgary June 28 Strathmore Mayor A D Shrimpton was elected 1929 30 president of the Union of Alberta Municipalities at the Palliser hotel convention. Alderman Fred J White Calgary is first vice president with W J Burns Coleman as second vice president and J D Saunders Camrose reappointed secretary treasurer. The meeting approved committees and heard Dr G H Wade urge limits on state pension and indigent aid with funding by higher authorities.

Hartwood Freighter Crew Rescued After Wreck
Coast Guard at Point Keyes reports twelve crew members remaining aboard the wrecked freighter Hartwood were taken off as the ship pound to pieces on the rocks. Sixteen crew members had been rescued just before midnight.

In Westbury New York on June 28 Jack Ashcraft a biplane pilot was killed and Viola Gentry known as the Flying Cashier was critically injured when their plane attempting an endurance flight crashed into a hackh...y tree near Roosevelt Field. Cornwall Acquitted Of Forgery Charge
Edmonton June 28 Thomas J Cornwall was acquitted by Justice Hyndman of a forgery charge tied to the 1925 Athabasca election scandal. The Crown offered no evidence besides a perjury confession by Mrs Bowtell of Frog Lake and noted Cornwall had used the alias Mr Barton in the case. Cornwall faced trial last March after being charged with forging a transfer certificate authorizing him to vote at poll 172 in 1925.
