Community Foundation marks 25 years with grants and poppy project
The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta celebrated 25 years by serving cake in BATUS Park and presenting grants totaling many thousands to local groups. Rick Redmond accepted a $1,000 grant for the No Stone Left Alone memorial foundation to place poppies on graves of service members, with 122 Canadian schools involved including Ecole St. Thomas d'Aquin in Medicine Hat. Poppies will be placed Nov 6 after students hear from speakers about wars and sacrifices. The grants support poppy costs, posters, and speaker transport as part of teaching remembrance. Additional grants included 2,000 to McMan Youth, 4,000 to Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society, 5,000 to Fresh Start to School, 10,000 to Medicine Hat & District Food Bank, and 8,038 to SPEC Association for Children and Families in Brooks for newcomer support programs.
