Brooks Beat reports on food safety tips for hamburger preparation to prevent E coli contamination and illness. Key guidance includes cooking ground beef to safe internal temperatures, avoiding cross contamination, and proper handling from purchase to plate.
Day care outbreak prompts health tips and Canada Day events
A suspected E coli infection at Newell Integrated Child Care Society closed the day care and sent six children to hospital. Public health links the source to a previously ill child and contaminated hands and surfaces. The piece also previews Brooks Canada Day activities including museum pancake breakfast, rodeo grounds entertainment, Legion picnic, and Scandia Cup slo pitch, with derby and fireworks planned in nearby towns. Dean Kacey notes Brooks events in his Monday column.
