Alberta plans colonization of irrigation lands under way

Edmonton reports that Alberta irrigation lands in the Lethbridge Northern district totaling about 30 000 acres are listed for sale to settlers for 12 50 to 35 per acre. A 2 per acre commission funds an immigration and colonization push. Colonel David Carnegie will represent Canada at the International Labour Conference in Ottawa on July 25.

Leaseholders Develop New Oil Company Formed in Many Island Lake Field

Leaseholders Development Company Limited is the latest oil firm formed in the area with a $50,000 capitalization. It lists C. R. Garvai as president A. E. Nye as vice president E. P. Blackshaw sec-treas. Directors include Andrew Wilson F B Ratliff and J C Wilson. The office is at 229 Sixth Avenue. Drilling is set to begin within thirty days.

Movement to reopen pre war beer sales debated at Inter church meeting

At a Tuesday evening gathering of the Inter church Brotherhood members discussed petitioning the Provincial Legislature to restore pre war beer sales. A circulating petition aims to gather signatures and if the referendum passes it would nullify prohibition. Conservatives and Liberals in Selkirk agreed to run a fusion candidate against farmer and labor nominees in Kildonan St Andrews.

Citizens of Medicine Hat launch a campaign against pests using sixty two sacks of bait at a rate of one hundred pounds per sack. Volunteers will distribute daily from 4 am across a ten mile radius, with organizers urging helpers to contact the Chamber of Commerce. The effort, supported by A W Murphy, aims to curb hopper damage and improve distribution methods for future days.
