Cypress County public works supervisor Rick Bleau says two recent tests on a new filtration system meet quality standards but cautions ongoing checks are needed. If turbidity remains low, Palliser Health Authority may lift the boil water order in Walsh, where residents have endured four years of high turbidity and costly water provisions. Bruce van Mulligen notes the organic mass layer on filters is thinner than expected, delaying full effectiveness. Continued testing aims to ensure sustained low turbidity before lifting advisories.

Water main break shuts several streets on Allowance area

A water main break on Allowance Avenue caused shutoffs for homes on 11th Street between Allowance and Kingsway and for businesses on the west side of Kingsway from 11th to 10th. Water returned by 7 p.m. but Allowance remained closed for hours. City crews learned of the break at 2 p.m. and stopped supply by 3 p.m. with digging starting at 4 p.m. The 1920s to 1930s steel pipes were blamed on age.
