A male youth involved in a police chase from Medicine Hat to Brooks pled guilty in Medicine Hat Youth Court and received a 22 and a half month sentence with 15 months in custody. A female co-accused got a one year conditional sentence. The chase began with a reported stolen car and ended after a crash near CFB Suffield. The youth faced eight charges but pled to evading police robbery possession of a stolen vehicle and assaulting a peace officer. other charges were dropped. Crown said 15 months to be served in custody and the rest conditional out of custody. The youth is from Ontario and is currently in custody in Calgary.
McCoy high school teacher Paul Merrick received the 2005 APEGGA teacher award on June 9 for excellence in math and science education. He earned a $1,000 prize to promote these subjects. a student letter praising him was highlighted as the greatest honor.
Severe rainfall and flooding force Alberta highway closures including 68 in Kananaskis and 540 579 584 plus 766 north of 27. Siksika First Nation and Gleichen region faced severe floods with water levels rising over a metre above week earlier highs. Hidden Valley Resort evacuated for the second time as 85 Siksika families displaced. Forty campers were rescued from Carseland park, and six Siksika residents were rescued by RCMP Air Services after becoming trapped at South Camp. No injuries reported though extensive property damage noted.
