Alberta coal policy raises royalties may drive operators out
Alberta announced a new coal policy replacing the 10 cent per ton royalty with a complex formula. Energy Minister Don Getty said some high earning mines could pay as much as nine dollars per ton, while high quality coal sells up to sixty dollars.
