Winnipeg Grain Exchange futures rose five cents with July up 1.25, October 1.17 7-8, December 1.15 3-4 as reports of U.S. crop damage weighed on sentiment. Most loss cited in U.S. winter wheat in southwestern states.
An anonymous donor gave 1 20000 to the Empire as a tribute to Stanley Baldwin for handling the abdication crisis. The gift will be an Imperial trust administered by independent trustees to strengthen ties across the Empire.
Firefighters were summoned at 12 07 a m Sunday to a rear barn at 332 Second Street where flames destroyed the dry structure. The total loss is partially insured for 400 dollars. The barn belonged to Mrs Geo Legge formerly Alice Brown who resides south of Thelma. Cause is listed as unknown.

Hundreds of thousands of Catholic students in Bavaria abandoned parochial schools under a Nazi decree that dissolved religious schools and turned them into secular institutions. In Munich and Upper Bavaria 966 confessional schools were converted while only 100 secular institutions existed before. Vatican officials indicated Pope Pius would oppose the move.

Sheldon-Portgous of Calgary was killed Saturday near Many Island Lake when a 35 foot derrick buckled as workers removed casings from a well 36 miles northeast of here. Foreman Porteous died from a fractured skull and other injuries. The crew, including E Carvell and D Taylor, evacuated injured and transported Porteous to Medicine Hat. Coroner and Royal Canadian Mounted Police ruled the death accidental with an inquest planned. Porteous leaves a widow Nellie and several relatives in Calgary and B C.
Calgary June 21. Alberta oil field development reported a Turner Valley Royalties Limited crude producer's well flowing at 8 barrels an hour or 2412 barrels a day. Dr A Brown treasurer announced a one and a half hour flash production Saturday night with a 4200 barrels daily rate.
A three-man Russian air crew flying a single-motored plane in a 6000 mile Moscow to Oakland attempt landed at Pearson field Vancouver Washington after 64 hours 17 minutes in the air. Poor visibility forced the halt though fuel remained. The men pilot Pile Valeri Chekaloff co pilot George Rnilitievitch Basilakoff and navigator Alexander Vassilievitch Beliakoff described a perfect landing despite conditions. Military officials removed recording instruments at the request of the Russian ambassador and the attempt was attributed to the weather and navigational uncertainties.
Three Toronto men died when a plane plunged from about 1000 feet into a wheat field near St Marys Ontario. Arthur Leavens was pilot and co owner with his brother Seavens. Passengers were Charles Lockett and A L Ogden. Farmers reported the wing fluttered during a banked turn as the craft aimed to land.

Mounted Police report a four year old boy witnessed the slaying of Emellian Hicks 25 and his wife. Hicks was found dead from a .22 rifle shot near Duck Lake Saskatchewan 35 miles south of Prince Albert. Hicks had threatened his wife earlier and a hayrack drive ended with the child and Mrs Hicks body at a farmhouse. Laura Paradis and John Anders sought help as Hicks drove off in a car.
President Roosevelt showed receptiveness to a plan to turn part of British Columbia and the Yukon into an international park with Skagway Alaska as a free port. The proposal by Senator Schwellenbach and Delegate Dimond aims to create an inside route for U S fliers between Skagway and inland Alaska, avoiding Canadian airspace and weather hazards.
Reports from Samoa say passengers were rescued from the burning British liner Macdhui near the Samoan Islands as it drifted with engines out. Neptune rushed to assist while it was unclear if survivors remained in lifeboats or aboard. The 4,561 ton Macdhui, built in 1931 and owned by Burns Philp, faced a fierce blaze and drifting peril.
