Death sentence for Hanna man who killed son in rage
William Hiles Beck, a farmer of Lone Butte Alber t, was sentenced to be hanged at Fort Saskatchewan Jail on September 30 1924 after a jury found him guilty of murdering his seven year old son Archie at their Clivedale Alberta farm on January 3 1924. The verdict ended a defense claiming insanity and the judge Mr Justice Tweedle ordered the death sentence. Husabeck stood calmly as sentence was pronounced and was immediately placed in custody to await transfer to Fort Saskatchewan. The wife and daughter reacted with weeping and distress. The jury had requested guidance on manslaughter versus murder before delivering the verdict.
