McCoy students win board support for 1974 75 budget
McCoy High School students presented a 1974 75 budget to the school board. The board approved an outright grant for uniforms and warm up jackets totaling 750 and set a yearly student union grant of 1.25 per student starting January 1 1975 for about 600 students. The board also approved upgrading at St Patrick School costing 2500 and discussed seven resolutions for the Zone 6 Alberta School Trustees Association.

Alberta Cadets to compete in Bisley Rifle Tournament in England
Kenneth D. Foster of Redcliff will join 15 other Canadian cadets in Bisley England July 16 to 27 for the Bisley Rifle Team tournament. About 220 cadets entered elimination rounds with the top 20 from four regional courses advancing to final trials for 16 team spots. The eight-man Canadian team will vie for the Alexander Graham Bell award against Britain, a trophy Canada has not won since last year. Alberta will also be represented by Kenneth Drader of Lacombe Cadet Corps.

Lalonde cautions on social security review limits at conference
Health and Welfare Minister Marc Lalonde told over 1,000 delegates at the Canadian Conference on Social Welfare that the social security review may not yield a perfect solution. He urged balancing basic family income levels with living standards and coordinating unemployment, poverty, retirement, and disability supports. He noted the Liberal government favors a two tier approach proposed in April 1973.
